Where to Find Fairies in Orange County

by Avra

Summer is a wonderful season for nature. Blooming foliage, clear skies and glistening waves decorate light-filled days. It's also a special season for fairies -- those little nature sprites many believe watch over flowers and help them blossom.

If you like whimsy, you're in luck! This summer, Orange County has fairies popping up everywhere. From festivals to plays to scenic meanders, you'll find a fairy adventure to spark your imagination.  Kids love all things fairy, so welcome them along, but it's fine to take these trips on your own:  Adults deserve a little magic, too!

WALK THE ALISO FAIRY TRAIL, Laguna Niguel

Walking the Aliso Summit Trail feels like strolling through a sliver of Heaven.  The easy, paved path 1000 feet above sea level overlooks cascading hills and the sparkling Pacific. Resident fairyologist Andreas has strewn it with lovely little fairy homes, delighting locals and visitors alike. Nicknamed Aliso Fairy Trail, this wonderful outing for kids of all ages will make your spirit sing.  Just be sure to bring a camera, a hat and sunscreen!

VISIT THE SAWDUST FESTIVAL, Laguna Beach

As you wander through this charming arts festival nestled in Laguna Canyon Road, you'll see a cave-like booth filled with soft fairy dolls, sparkly magic wands and shiny hair barrettes. These are the handiwork of Laguna's resident fairy lady Missy Belland, who has sold them at Sawdust for years. Visit her booth at Sawdust for all things fairy!

Tinker Bell may be the most corporate of fairies, but she's also OC's best-known sprite. Born in 1904 in Europe with the release of Peter Pan, Tink flew stateside in 1924 with Paramount's silent film of Peter Pan.  Walt Disney put out his own version in 1953 and the rest, as they say, is history.

July 14-16: Margaret Kerry, the original animator's model for Tinker Bell, will be at Anaheim Convention Center's D23 Expo (Hall A, Booth #514E, days & times vary). Margaret's book, "Tinker Bell Talks," came out in 2016!

Casa Romantica is often described as a fairy-tale villa by the sea.  It will be more so this summer, with strands of flowers suspended mid-air courtesy of Rebecca Louise Law's "Casa Coastal" exhibition.  This exhibit just screams Faerie!  Through Aug 13th

CELEBRATE WITH FLOWERS, Los Alamitos

With floral displays this magical, there's no doubt the fairies are helping Nisie's to enchant the brides!  Makes me want to celebrate, how about you?!
